The Finds

From the Ark of the Covenant, Shangri-La, to 1715 Fleet, these have been stories that have captured the adventure seekers, historians, and of course, those seeking riches.

Over the course of history, many artifacts from cultures far and wide have been stolen or otherwise lost. From being lost during war times, washed away in storms to depths of the oceans, or looted by grave robbers, sometimes these are recovered, but most of the time are not...

However, sometimes that is not always the case. For a select lucky few, hidden treasures, coins, and objects from the past have been discovered. Here are their stories...

Soldiers Accidentally Find Over $100 Million In Gold

These are the biggest treasures found by complete accident! Hundreds of millions of dollars in gold bars, and cash reserves have been found by soldiers, and even complete strangers! Some of the most valuable treasures of all time have been discovered completely by accident. Soldiers have discovered secret hoards of cash, and gold has been found in old tanks. Divers have found shipwrecks completely by chance. The Uluburun shipwreck is one of the oldest shipwrecks ever discovered, and it was found by accident by sponge diver Mehmet Çakir in 1998. The Dead Sea Scrolls were first discovered in 1947 completely by accident by a group of Bedouin goat herders. The Rosetta Stone was discovered completely by accident by Napoleon’s forces in 1799. The Cuerdale Hoard is one of the greatest Viking treasure troves ever found, and it was found by accident when some workers were fixing a river embankment. A crew of workers discovered the Sroda Slaska treasure in 1985 after a building was demolished. The workers found a vase at the foundation of the destroyed building which contained 3,000 Prague groschen. Many similar discoveries were made in the area in the following years. In 1992, farmer Peter Whatling called up a friend with a metal detector to help him look for a lost hammer in his field. Instead of a hammer, the pair found a treasure bounty that’s worth about $3.8 million today. The Venus de Milo statue was found on the Greek island of Melos in 1820 by a peasant named Yorgos Kentrotas. He made the discovery while gathering marble blocks. Here’s a look at some of the biggest treasures found by accident. Keep watching to find out more.
